The secret to better ideas is specificity and depth.

Share more specifics with greater depth. Leave behind the played out platitudes and cliches, and put out long-form content that actually has something meaningful to say.

  • Twitter threads
  • In-depth Facebook and LinkedIn posts
  • 30-60 minute videos
  • E-books
  • Blogs 
  • Email series  

Novel Storytelling

Storytelling is the wrapping paper around great ideas that reels people in. It gives people a framework for consuming the ideas in a way that educates, entertains, inspires or engages.

Use storytelling in all of your content to capture more attention. Here’s where you can source more attention-grabbing stories: 

  • Personal anecdotes
  • Customer / Client stories 
  • Your origin story
  • Parables from your past
  • Process / Product development stories
  • POV stories
  • Educational stories

Stay Relevant 

People listen when you talk about stuff that matters to them. Their wants, needs, frustrations, fears and aspirations. 

If you’re talking about topics that your audience has matured beyond, or has yet to develop into, you’ll struggle to maintain their attention. You need a 100% message match.

You have to know more than who your target market is. You have to understand what comes out of their mouth. That requires you to study the mouth of the market though:

  • Sales/Discovery calls
  • Forums and Facebook/LinkedIn groups
  • Their social media content
  • Client feedback
  • Surveys and focus groups
  • Search data

And once you identify a relevant message, don’t be afraid to circle the block on topics that resonate with your audience.

In summary, you’ll get more attention if you:

  • Improve the quality of your ideas through more depth and specificity
  • Tell stories that educate, engage, inspire or entertain
  • Listen to what your market says so you stay relevant
